SIMSBURY TOWN HALL

Present: Chair, Mary Turner; Jill Paterson; Gwen Moraski; Lonni Schulz.
Absent: Lori Fernand, Andrew Rose, Dane Woodberry.
Guests: Selectman, John Hampton;
Simsbury High School students, Claudia Szerakowski and Mackenzie Stelle.
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm.
RECYCLING NEWS
None.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Mary and Lonni received an email from Evelyn at SigCycle regarding a recycling bin giveaway program sponsored by Coca-Cola. We discussed how Simsbury could participate. Mary will discuss with Rich Sawitzke regarding this topic and report back to us.
2. Lonni received an email notice from the Keep the Woods email distribution list, of which she is a member, about an upcoming Gifford’s Conversation scheduled for Thursday, March 5, 2009 @7:00 at Ethel Walker School. Discussion concerning more widespread distribution about the Gifford’s Conversations followed, including having members of the Recycling Committee on the email distribution list. John Hampton explained that this Conversation was just scheduled three days earlier and there is no formal distribution list for the Gifford’s Conversations. He told us that we should contact Sue Mazurski to be put on the Town of Simsbury email distribution list to receive these notices. Mary was going to take care of this the day after our meeting.
REPORTS
1. School
Recycling Program field trip
The Henry James EnviroTeam annual field trip to the Trash Museum is scheduled for the afternoon of early dismissal day, Wednesday, May 13, 2009. Maybe the high school memebers of the Environmental Club could attend, too, as a bus that can take more students than are members of the middle school EnviroTeam will be hired.
2. Swap Center Update
The new building will be installed this spring.
3. Nike Reuse-a-Shoe Program
Lori Fernand is drafting the letter to be sent to participating schools. She expects to have that to me for review any day.
4. Town Bulky Waste & Recycling Center Brochure
Dane Woodberry is working on a draft and will send it to each of us for comments when ready.

The minutes of the January 22, 2009 meeting were approved as amended.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.
