SIMSBURY RECYCLING COMMITTEE Thursday, June 25th, 2009
Call to Order: 7:30 pm
Present: Chair Mary Turner, Lori Fernand, Lonni Schulz, and Dane Woodberry.
Minutes: Dane Woodberry motioned that the March 26th minutes be accepted with the suggested changes. Lori Fernand seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Dane Woodberry motioned that the May 28th minutes be accepted with the suggested changes. Mary Turner seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Correspondence: None.
Recycling News: None.
Reports: Swap Center Update: Mary Turner sent letter to First Selectman Mary Glassman asking about the structure of the relationship between the Transfer Center and the new Swap Shoppe.
-12 feet building
-8 feet set back for the entrance ramp
-need at least 6 parking spaces
-need proper signage stating when the building is open and nothing can be left there, all items need to be accepted by a Swap Shoppe volunteer
-Rope off area
Nike Reuse-A-Shoe:
-over 1,200 pairs collected
-having bins at Battistons was very effective
-press releases to local papers also raised awareness of campaign
-Because a good deal of the shoes submitted, maybe around 10 percent, are still in good shape, want to see about collaborating with the Second Hand Shop to reuse some of these shoes.
Brochure:
-mock up will be completed over the summer as a tri-fold to be reviewed in September.
Old Business: -Need to revisit issue of plastic recycling
New Business- -Need to look into new student liaison from Simsbury High School for the fall
