UPDATE: The sweepers anticipate beginning Section 5 on Thursday, May 8, 2008, weather permitting.
The Simsbury Highway Department will begin sweeping winter sand from the streets, weather permitting, on or about April 1, 2008. Merchants, businesses and residents are urged to start sweeping sand off lawns and sidewalks so the sweeper can collect this sand. Please do not sweep sand into piles. Piles of sand cannot be picked up by the sweeper efficiently.
As in past years, the town is divided into sections and the sweeping schedule is rotated so that a different section is swept last each year.
Sand should not be pushed into the catch basins. Like any seasonal process undertaken by the Department, sand collection is time consuming, and is estimated to take approximately two months. It is asked that residents be patient and not call the Department to ask when the crews will arrive on a particular street, as schedules vary constantly, being affected by weather, equipment breakdowns, and work load of other operations.
